Michael A. Sawyer (FBO Manager)

Michael_SawyerMichael A. Sawyer, current owner, purchased Winterset Aviation Services Inc. from Greg Harrison on January 1, 2015. Michael has been involved with aviation maintenance since 2006. After obtaining his A&P from Indian Hills Community College he worked at Ft. Rucker Army training facility located in FT. Rucker, AL. While there, he performed, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on the UH-60 Blackhawk and Bell 206A/B helicopters. After working at Ft. Rucker, Michael moved back to Iowa to feed his passion for general aviation. His first taste of general aviation came when he obtained an A&P technician slot at Connell Aviation II, located in Independence, IA. This is where Michael began to learn the in’s and out’s of running a maintenance facility. While working at Connell, Michael obtained his private pilot’s license. In search of something closer to his home town (Des Moines, IA) he found Winterset Aviation and started working with Greg in 2012.Michael currently holds an A&P license, private pilot’s license, and an inspection authorization endorsement (IA). He is currently working on obtaining his Instrument rating, and will continue working toward new ratings.


Mike Cornelius (Manager of Flight Operations)

Mike was born and raised in East Hartford, CT. When he was a child he began to build a passion for aviation after many family trips flying to the West Coast to see family. While in high school he got what he considered his “golden opportunity” to attend flight school at the University of Dubuque. Mike started flying in the fall of 2010 and while at the University of Dubuque, he earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Flight Operations. Mike currently holds a Commercial Pilot Certificate with multi engine and instrument ratings. Mike also received his high performance and complex endorsements while attending school. Mike is currently working on his CFI and continues to build his passion for general aviation and looks for any opportunity to go flying.  Mike and his wife, Chelsey currently reside in Winterset.


Anthony Fowler (Director of Maintenance)

Anthony joined Winterset Aviation Services in July of 2017. He completed Indian Hills Community College Aviation Maintenance and Avionics Programs. He has his A&P, AET (NCATT Aircraft Electronics Technician), FCC GROL License, and Private Pilot License. After school he worked at Duncan Aviation performing avionics installations and troubleshooting systems on corporate aircraft. After Duncan he got into working on small piston aircraft where he found his passion to be.
